Client’s Initial Challenge or Need: Devin’s home, a beautiful property in Webster City, Iowa, was showing its age. The old siding was worn and fading, and they were concerned about its ability to protect their home from Iowa’s unpredictable weather. They wanted a fresh, durable exterior that would not only look great but also provide better insulation and long-term value.
Location: Webster City, Iowa

- Initial Contact: May 2023
- Start of Project: August 2023

Client’s Goals and Concerns
The main goal was to give their home a complete makeover while also improving its energy efficiency. They were looking for a long-lasting solution that would stand up to harsh winters and humid summers. A specific concern was making sure the new siding would go well with their existing house color and style. They also worried about a damaged shed and a tricky area with cinder blocks near the foundation.
Our Approach and Solutions
From the start, our team aimed to build trust by being honest and upfront. We listened carefully to the concerns and addressed them one by one. Our project manager, Ben Coy, personally worked with the family to choose the right materials. We settled on James Hardie fiber cement siding, a popular choice at Heartland for its durability and resistance to moisture and pests. For the challenging cinder block area, we decided the best approach was to use a furring strip system to create a smooth surface for the new siding. This ensured a flawless finish while avoiding any potential damage to the home’s foundation.
We use high-quality materials and systems, and we take our time to do it right. This means we avoid rushing and make sure our team has everything they need to do a great job.
Implementation Process
Our process is designed to be as smooth as possible for the homeowner.
- Inspection and Planning: We started with a detailed inspection to identify any underlying issues. This helped us create a precise plan for the project.
- Material Ordering: Our team ordered all the necessary materials, including the James Hardie siding and specialty trim pieces. We make sure everything is on-site before we start work.
- Removal of Old Siding: Our crew, led by Gio, carefully removed the old siding and inspected the sheathing underneath. We found some rotted areas on the shed and made sure to repair them before moving on.
- Installation: The crew installed the new siding, paying close attention to every detail, from the proper placement of the furring strips to the new garage door trim and outlet covers.
- Final Walkthrough and Cleanup: Once the installation was complete, we did a final walkthrough to make sure they were completely happy with the work.
Before & After
The transformation of the West residence was remarkable. The old, faded siding was replaced with a crisp, new siding that instantly gave the house a fresh, modern look. The design decisions were simple: sticking with a classic color palette for the siding to give the house a clean, timeless appeal. The upgraded trim on the garage door and the new outlet covers added to the polished final look.
Results and Outcomes
Devin was thrilled with the outcome. The new siding not only looks fantastic but has also improved the insulation of their home, making it more comfortable year-round. This has given them peace of mind that their home is protected and they can enjoy it for many years to come. In the Heartland, we don’t just finish a job and disappear; we stand by our work. We offer strong warranties and are always available for follow-up questions or services. We made sure to stick to the original timeline and kept the family informed every step of the way.
What Set Us Apart
In a state where trust is everything, we believe in being fully transparent. This project presented a few unique challenges, like the damaged shed and the issue with the cinder blocks, but we didn’t shy away from them. Instead, we saw them as an opportunity to show what sets us apart. We went above and beyond to make sure they were taken care of. For us, a job isn’t just about putting up siding; it’s about building a relationship and ensuring our neighbors in Iowa are satisfied. It’s a lesson we learn with every project: communication and a commitment to quality are what make a house a home.
